A Spanish mission-style pink villa featured in Married At First Sight and The Bachelor has sold to Sydney-based investment banker Michael Rothner for $26 million.
The opulent home, known as Villa Biscaya, has also been featured in The Voice and Mao’s Last Dancer, as well as being the backdrop for fashion advertising campaigns.
The property, at 6 Tivoli Ave, Rose Bay, was originally built in 1929 by architect Alan Edgecliff Stafford.
The stunning mansion, which features harbour views, four bedrooms, a swimming pool, tropical gardens and a 1000-bottle wine cellar was listed for sale in October 2022 by art collector and options trader David Waterhouse with $28 million hopes.
It was sold with approval to add a third storey to capitalise on its harbour views, as well as approval for a four-car garage with studio that would provide internal access to the house, a feature currently lacking.
Mr Rothner, who is a principal and head of investor relations and joint ventures at commercial real estate finance firm AsheMorgan is a well-known and powerful figure in Sydney’s wealthy Jewish community.
He previously sold a property in Sydney’s exclusive Darling Point for $23.2 million in 2014 after splitting from his wife, Lisa.
The Aston Martin-driving Mr Rothner then reportedly took up residence in a multimillion-dollar pad in Bondi’s beachfront Pacific building and was romantically linked to eastern suburbs socialite Ziah Lane.
Mr Rothner has a range of celebrity acquaintances and been photographed at A-list events with the likes of actor Cate Blanchett, model Tyra Banks and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.
Villa Biscaya’s previous owner, Mr Waterhouse, an estranged member of the famous horse racing family, made a huge profit on the property which he bought in 2020 for a reported $10.25 million.
He reportedly undertook extensive renovations on the property, including the addition of a stunning marble kitchen.
